GPS Navigation Systems: What's next?
Technology has achieved many useful developments in satellite navigation systems that allow a small electronic device to navigate its exact (location of the longitude, latitude and altitude) satellite. When you know your position, the device De navigation calculates the navigation information including terrain, directions, roads and more.
Today, most vehicles are supplied with satellite navigation installed in aircraft before them. These devices are commonly used by drivers of motor vehicles, full of fans air, soldiers, sailors and other military applications.
The known satellite is fully operational at the time of this writing is GPS or Global Positioning System navigation. GPS of the United States contains 24 to 27 satellites orbiting at an altitude of about 20,000 km with an inclination of 55 degrees at six different levels.
The Russian counterpart to GPS called GLONASS, which is derived from Global Navigation Satellite System. Although the first GLONASS satellites were launched in 1982, the system is not fully operational until 1995. GLONASS has deteriorated to only 12 satellites, due to financial difficulties. The Russian GLONASS constellation is expected to be fully operational in 2010 and is expected to include India.
The European Union is working on EGNOS from European Geostationary Navigation Overlay. It consists of 3 satellites intended to complement the GPS and GLONASS in determining the right signals and the position of 5 meters. It is planned to operate in 2006.
The European Space Agency is working on introducing an alternative to GPS, called Galileo. Recipients may combine the signals of 30 Galileo satellites and 28 GPS satellites to obtain highly accurate position.
There are many satellite navigation systems, however, to be launched in several countries. The French satellite system called DORIS (Doppler Orbit and Radio-positioning Integrated by Satellite), the Chinese system called Beidou, but these satellite systems are not of the stature of GPS, GLONASS and Galileo.
